The First Glance:

• 1) Look at the patient
• 2) Look at the monitor
• 3) Determine if the patient is stable or unstable:
  • The Unstable Patient (most common) – Vitals not OK and/or Symptomatically not OK.
    • → ABCDEF protocol
  • The Stable Patient – Vitals OK and Symptomatically appears OK. 
    • → Normal Consultation protocol
      • Take History, Perform Examination(s) [do it for real], discuss Provisional Diagnosis and start Management [do it for real].
